My Grandfather was David Woolfenden, served with the RAF, called up in 2nd april 1941, demobbed 31 OCT 1945. He spent time with the 454 RAAF squadron as an ambulance driver. I have a reference for "libya-Coastal command 454, and he spent time in Egypt, Palestine, Iraq and Aden. By chance anyone have any information on this?

My father William George Bromley (RAF) service number 542577 was transferred to Australia at the start of WW2 to train gunners. I believe he was stationed in Perth during his two and a half years. I have been unable to find any relevant information on his time in Australia and wondered whether you had any information about him. He returned to England via Cape Town where he sailed on MV Abosso as an RAF NCO. He was put in charge of a number of internees and very sadly the ship was torpedoed in mid Atlantic with a huge loss of life. There were only 31 survivors including one internee. I would be very grateful for any information you may be able to provide.

Answer 13 July 2014: Dear Ms Simpson,

My uncle, Lucas Bruijn, died on the Abosso. I researched the ship and its fate thorougly and have collected lots of material on it.

Of course, I came across your father's name and also found the article in the Times about his experiences.

That he was 'in charge of the internees' on the ship is new to me. I notice that you have been in contact with Mr. John Ebert recently. He calls himself an Abosso researcher, but I don't know him.

If you would like more info on the Abosso, please contact me.

Regards,

Lucas Bruijn, The Netherlands

I would like to know if there is any way I might be able to get in contact with R.F. (Bob) Kelly or any other member of William (Tim) Greenup's crew. William was my grandfather and I would like to ask some questions and find out some more information.

Answer 02 August 2013: I am Bob Kelly's son (RF Kelly Pilot) - Dad wrote a journal that in part described the escapades in the middle east after forming the crew with your grandfather. Happy to swap notes with you.
